On-set visit with Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’i & Mark Mancina …

These guys are sooooooooooo enthused about this film and the music they did for it!

I wondered what Polynesian language the first part of We Know the Way is in, and what the translation is. Te Vaka’s youtube videos generally have the Polynesian lyrics and the translation. Here, Opetaia says: “in Samoan, then Tokelauan…we are voyagers, called to the sea, called by the great god of the sea, who puts up a challenge, we take on that good challenge and so prepare, we know the ways of the sea, by the skies, the currents etc.”
