recycle your junk into…

sea jars

craft of the day…

buy those expensive beach themed things in the store or…

  • search in the darkest corners of the kitchen cabinets and find some vintage peanut butter jars, mystery jugs and other glass…
  • use artists acrylics or watercolor (translucent… craft paint is like house paint, opaque)(you could also use food coloring or…. jello? Kool Aid?)
  • mix a bit of Prussian blue or Winsor Blue with ModPodge to make a translucent paint…
  • paint your glass…
  • roll bottom of jar in sand (beach sand, because I can’t go kayaking or to a beach without coming back with a hold full of rocks and sand and shells and things)…
  • also sprinkle sand on bottom third of jar…
  • sprinkle some white, clear, silver or blue glitter lightly on the blue bits…
  • dry…
  • paint a layer of ModPodge over the top (you can leave the sand as is without ModPodge coating)
  • glue shells to string or yarn (E6000 glues anything to anything and dries clear and slightly flexible), tie around necks of jars

experimented with both jute type string and a nifty sea colored varigated (multicolored) yarn that becomes netlike when you stretch it out
