sprouting lotus simplified

So, I have two couple a year old lotus seeds from some random kayaking expedition…

I also have a pot of successfully sprouted lotus from a few years ago.

Um, how did I do that again???

I looked it up online and there are numerous videos on How To Sprout Your Lotus (in Hindi even), most of which involve grinders and other dangerous things that could remove my fingers and which are too expensive to own anyway.

American lotus is native to our area (Chesapeake Bay watershed) and other parts of North America. In the wild, it grows in muddy shallows and emerges above the water’s surface. In the Sassafras River, it blooms in the backwaters from mid-July to mid-August. Kayaking among the lotus is one of the more amazing paddling experiences.

growing it in your backyard isn’t as scary as you think. You can either use a pot (bringing it in in the winter) or have a deep enough bog/pond to plant this native and let it do its thing. As long as the pond doesn’t freeze to the bottom you should be OK.

Here’s how to start your seed; you need to sand off one end (it apparently doesn’t matter which end) till you see the white bits… no grinders needed.

OK, so the %*&%^$&%^$@^^%$ wordpress won’t let me upload the video…

off to Youtube, or my facebook…

bwaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaaaa haaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!

I have created fiiiiiiirrrrrreeee!!!!!

(I think it worked)
