we are katniss: gardening with swordwhale (may the odds be ever…)

I rescued some tadpoles from a shrinking puddle…

which caused me to do this…

…set up a rubber (non toxic to fish and amphibians, unlike some  plastic wading pools) horse tub as a temporary pond, placed some SAV (submerged aquatic vegetation) in it for oxygenation, added a water hyacinth (invasive in the south, but fine here in PA), and found something called arrowroot at the library plant sale (support your local library!).

Turns out to be the stuff I’ve been paddling past for years kayaking on tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay.
