paddle this:

Just a reminder to all you who live within a short drive of the Chesapeake Bay…

Mid July to mid August, the American Lotus bloom in the shallows of the Sassafras River (and others), it makes a great paddling trip. If you don’t have a boat, you can still park at Turner’s Creek Park and hike down one of the trails to the sand beaches and get in the river with a pool float or something. Lotus are right there at Turner’s Creek as well.

On the DelMarVa Peninsula, (from PA) go south on 213 to Georgetown MD.

Continue south to Galena.

Follow 213 around the “dogleg” to the left (west).

Bear right on 298.

Turner’s Creek Road right (north).

The river runs east to west, its mouth opening on the Chesapeake at Betterton, which is a nice beach to spend the day at. Lots of driftwood and seaglass in certain seasons. Picnic tables, shady trees, bathhouse, restrooms.
